Feed the Birds!

For Achievement Night (the church group of girls ages 8-11) we decided to test our luck going to a known park to feed the birds there. I'd been before, with my family, and of the group of about 12 of us, I think two people actually had birds land on their outstretched hands.
After waiting.
Patiently.
And being very still.
For a long time.

We arrived and set about looking for the trail that led to that same spot, but before we could even find the trail head, swarms of birds were coming right up to us, perching about two feet above us in the branches! We got out the birdseed right there, and sure enough, those birds knew why we were there.

I think it took about 2 minutes before every girl had at least one bird come visit her hand and fly away with a sunflower seed! Marleah even had two land on her head! It's a strange yet wondrous sensation to have these delicate feathered creatures perch right on your fingertips. I had never realized the sound their wings make at that close range!

We had maybe 4or 5 different bird varieties visit us (mostly chickadees and nuthatches), although the red cardinals would only go after the leftover seeds on the ground.

It was wondrous.

If I can figure out how to transfer the other pics, I will....
