A First for Lucy

To Read Or Not To Read...

If I was independently wealthy (and childless and single),

here's what I would probably do all day.

Well, with breaks to create something crafty.

Last night was book club, and we got to choose the line-up for the following year.

We picked a variety of titles/authors, and I took notes to explore the not-chosen ones that sounded intriguing.

But in researching which three I would suggest, I noticed something.

It used to be that I RARELY began a book that I didn't finish (perhaps I did enough of that with high school and college text books....physical science comes to mind....).

I seem to have lost that loyalty to finish a book that I find tedious or dry, or just too much work to read. No offense to the authors- really. Perhaps someday if I become published, critiquing will come more easily, but for now, I read to be entertained and hopefully to learn something along the way. I'm just realizing more and more that my time is precious.

Not sure if this is a sign of becoming old and cranky, or increased wisdom....right- who am I kidding? Sigh....time to rotate laundry so I can read some more.....

Time for Book Club

I love to read. I've loved to read since I was in about second grade and realized that my favorite place to be in school was either the art room or the library. My parents often found me reading tucked in a basement nook or up in a tree. Later, I remember my dad telling me that I'd read more books at my age than he had in his lifetime(I think I was a freshman in high school, and he had owned a bookstore for a time).

So a group of us at church got together and formed a book club. We take turns reccommending books, and try to jumble the genre. This month I'm hosting, and the book I've chosen is:

Should be a good discussion. I really enjoyed this one, and learned more about Thomas Jefferson and a bit of our nation's history. Would make a great movie, but the pc police would never allow it.
